A BOOKSTORE in Pickering is to launch a Christmas appeal to support local primary schools.

Pickering Book Tree, Market Place, is offering schools the chance to access new books and inspire young readers.

The campaign launches on November 26 and will run until December 17.

During this time, for every £10 spent in store customers will get a marble to drop into one of the shop’s glass jars.

Customers will be able to choose to support either Pickering Infant School, Pickering Junior School, St Joseph’s Primary School, or a non-specific pot which will be split between the three schools.

Each marble represents £1 for local schools to spend on books.

At the end of the collection period the store will count the marbles and let the schools know how much it will be donating.

The schools will then either a wish list of books to be delivered in early 2023, or the chance to choose directly from the store’s shelves.

A spokesperson for Pickering Book Tree said: “We are keen to support a love of reading at all ages, and one of our aims as a small business is to provide children with a diverse range of books to spark a lifelong interest in reading.”
