NEWLANDS Park are the new leaders of the first division in the Scarborough & District League after hammering Seamer Sports 8-0.

Newlands Park had hat-tricks scored by Dan Freer and Adam Stride plus a goal each from Sean Exley and Matty Griffiths. Newlands’ final league game will be on Saturday away at Filey Town and may turn out to be a title decider.

Last week’s leaders Filey Town lost 7-2 at home to West Pier, despite being 2-0 up.

The home side cruised into a two goal lead with goals scored by Cameron Dobson and Darren Clough.

Filey missed several clear-cut chances, but West Pier scored three quick goals to lead 3-2 at half-time. The away side’s goals were scored by Luke Delve with a header after good work by Alex Caw, and a brace from Martin Cooper.

In the second-half, West Pier got well on top scoring further goals by Gary Thomas and two from Delve to give him his hat-trick. Cooper added another to complete his hat-trick.

Edgehill beat Whitby Fishermen 3-1 thanks to a Danny Collins hat-trick.

In the second division, Newlands Park Reserves beat FC Rosette 3-0 with goals scored by Stew Bates (2), and Jack Worthy.

Seamer Sports Reserves beat Commercial in the third division thanks to a Travis Wood goal scored five minutes into the second-half.

Eastway Sports completed their league programme with a 9-3 thrashing of Tennyson with Eric Hall grabbing a hat-trick, Mark Craven (2), and goals from Rob Clark, John Greystone, Tom Fordyce and Brad Easton.

In midweek, Ayton Reserves completed their league programme with a 5-0 win against Tennyson with goals by Dan Pickard and Matty Bywater in the first-half, with second-half efforts from Shaun Dolan, Rob Ward and Chris Milburn.
