PICKERING Running Club (PRC) showed their wild side at the “FlaminGo!” 10-kilometre race, led by Lynn Humpleby claiming a fine third place.
The slightly short, flat two-lap course and perfect conditions guaranteed personal bests all round for the Pickering pack.
More than 300 runners in total lined up for the six-mile race around the theme park, golf course and zoo.
The inaugural event raised £5,500 for the Udzungwa Forest conservation project in Tanzania – a charity backed by the popular Ryedale visitor attraction.
Using his trademark pacing strategy, Simon Jones ran a consistently hard race to finish in 34 minutes 41 seconds for sixth place overall.
Second home for the club was Humpleby, who pushed round the course to finish third lady and second in age category in 41-50.
Next across the line for PRC was Serena Partridge, whose recent marathon training saw her finish fresh-faced in 46-56.
Just seconds behind was Melissa Huntsman, who, after a break from racing, bagged a great time of 47-03 – bringing home a jubilant Pickering team.
