WOMBLETON Wanderers went goal crazy in the first division of the newitts.com Beckett League to confirm their title credentials.

The current leaders beat basement side Ryedale Sports Club reserves 13-2 on Saturday to open up an eight-point lead over Kirkbymoorside reserves and Thornton-le-Dale, who are n joint second place, although the Moorsiders have two games in hand and Thornton-le-Dale one.

Tom Ellis led the way for Wombleton with four goals, with Josh Tateson adding two.

The rest of the plunder was shared between man-of-the-match midfielder Jordan Rivis, Luke McLaren, Shaun Clark, Keelan Simpson, Luke Tateson, Jake Dennison and substitute Matty Garbutt, with his second ever goal for the club.

This was Luke Tateson’s first match back following a knee operation and he played in goal - but he got on the scoresheet thanks to a penalty.

The Ryedale SC goals were scored in the second half by Seb Rivett and Max Calsey, both made by midfield dynamo Darren Collier.

Their man of the match, though, despite the scoreline, was goalkeeper Steve 'Whacker' Walker, who hung up his gloves last month but came out of retirement for one last game.

Walker has also retired as club secretary after 30 years in office. He will be replaced by player Martin Myers.

Kirkbymoorside reserves won 3-1 at Bagby & Balk winning 3-1.

The home side started well but conceded a goal to Shaun Cox after 10 minutes - Bagby & Balk keeper Tommy Hunter got a hand to the ball but could not keep it out. From then on, Bagby’s performance suffered.

Man-of-the-match Lee Nesfield scored either side of half-time to seal the Moorsiders' win, with Bagby getting a late consolation goal through Luke Williamson.

Olly Brooks was Bagby's man of the match at centre-back.

Fourth-placed Heslerton made it six wins on the bounce on Saturday when they saw off visitors Slingsby 5-0 though they had to work hard for the result - scoring all five goals in the last quarter.

Slingsby frustrated the Blues in the first half and made things very difficult, but in the second, Heslerton got a grip on their game.

Slingsby could have taken the lead when Joe Brown and Scott Simpson both had good chances superbly saved by impressive young keeper Gareth Driver.

But Heslerton took the lead after 70 minutes when Joe Schofield got on the end of a Chris Bell cross to score.

Further goals then arrived, scored by Tom Harrison, with an unstoppable 25-yard shot into the bottom corner, Wayne Pilmoor, with a cross-cum-shot which sailed into the Slingsby goal, James Webb, after good work by Schofield, and Schofield, who was put through for his second of the game by Pilmoor.

The men of the match were Heslerton right-back Mark Plumpton and defender Mike Anderson for Slingsby award, who also had Joe Brown in impressive form.

Sinnington remain fifth after pulling off a good win over Rosedale - despite again being short of players.

The match was switched to Sinnington as Rosedale's pitch was snow covered.

Rosedale’s Tom Bell hit the underside of the crossbar and the inside of a post before the ball was scrambled away.

David Wilkinson then opened the scoring for the Sinners and, in the second half, a second Wilkinson goal plus a Toby Edwards strike sealed the victory and the three points.

Wilson and man-of-the-match Will Sanders were the victors' top performers.

A young Rosedale side never stop battling, though, and with a bit more luck could have had a point from the game. Their man of the match was Lyle King playing up front.
