DIVISION ‘B’ side New Globe ‘A’ pulled off another shock in the Malton & Norton League Team Knockout cup thanks to a superb comeback win.

Having already knocked out the defending champions, Globe beat high-flying division ‘A’ team Royal Oak ‘A’ 4-3.

Oak won the opening two frames through Spencer Ward and Mark Jeffels, but Globe won the next three as Jeff Brown, Rob Umpleby and Jon Parkinson put their opponents under pressure.

Jeffels and Jamie Barstow took the first pairs to level the match and take it to a decider but Parkinson and Stuart Whatmore clinched it for Globe.

The only other second tier side, Hyde Park ‘A’, likewise put up a valiant performance against Union ‘A’ only to be edged out 4-3 in another decider.

Union wins by Wayne Taylor, Darren Craggs and Shane Wood were each cancelled out by Gavin Rice, Darren Pickering and, in the first pairs frame, Rice and Tom Smithson.

Craggs held his nerve in the decider when partnering Wood to clear his three remaining balls and send Union into the semi-finals.

Bright Steels ‘A’ likewise booked their place after a nailbiting 4-3 win against club-mates Bright Steels ‘B’. Malton Cons enjoyed a more straightforward passage, seeing off New Globe ‘B’ 4-1.
