RELEGATION-threatened Ryedale Sports Club were no match for title-chasing West Pier on Sturday, losing 7-0 at home in the Scarborough & District League first division.

West Pier are just a point behind leaders Westover Wasps but the Wasps have played five games more.

They cruised into a four-goal first-half lead through Martin Cooper, Ali Caw, Tommy Barker and Gaz Thomas and completed victory over a poor Ryedale effort with strikes by Rob Speight, Will Jenkinson and Luke Delve.

Edgehill maintained their title ambition by beating basement side Ayton 5-2 with Danny Collins scoring a hat-trick. Andy Noon and Dean Craig also netted.

Champions Newlands Park are also still in contention, as highlighted by a 9-0 home win against Sleights in which Danny Jenkinson hit four goals.

Other marksmen were Stefan Moon, Kyle May, Chris Mann, Jack Hakings and Drew McCroubrey.

Seamer Sports also impressed when beating Hunmanby United 7-0 with goals by Joe Gallagher (3), Travis Wood, Gaz Lawton, Joe Tiffany and Danny Bradbury.

In division two, Snainton picked up a useful point in a 1-1 draw at Athletico 2B.

Karl Cooper put the visitors ahead and they almost doubled their lead when Mikey Webster hit a post before Shaun Dobson scored a fine equaliser.

Second division leaders Whitby RUFC won at Scalby. Mikey Kilpatrick set up debutant James Organ-Simpson to open the goalscoring after five minutes, and, early in the second half, Paul Jobling doubled the lead with a goal direct from a corner, beating Scalby player-manager Daniel Gregory who had donned the gloves for the hosts.

Organ-Simpson got a second goal before Carl Marton pulled one back with 15 minutes remaining.

Filey Town reserves are second after a 2-1 home win against Duchess thanks to a brace of second-half headed goals after Ian Laing had put the visitors in front.

Promotion hopefuls Cayton Corinthians beat FC Rosette 5-1, never looking back after taking a fifth-minute lead with a Luke Newbould penalty.

Josh and Isaac Sands also netted before half-time and, although Danny Thompson pulled one back, Josh Sands and Jack Pinder sealed victory.

In the League Trophy, third division leaders Seamer Sports reserves beat Edgehill reserves 4-1 in a penalty shoot-out after the tie had ended 4-4.

Martyn Ferrey missed an early penalty for Edgehill but they went ahead through Lee Micklethwaite. Goals by Kris Tate and Gaz Walters, reacting quickest after Danny Glendinning's shot was blocked, turned things around before Mikey Barker equalised before half-time.

Tate fired Seamer ahead with a penalty, but Edgehill again equalised through substitute David Bell to force extra time.

Tate completed his hat-trick with a penalty to again put Seamer ahead but Martyn Ferrey levelled to take the tie to a shoot-out.

Seamer's successful penalty takers were Tate, Glendinning, Mattison and Chris Ferrey, while Bell was Edgehill’s sole netter.

In the semi-finals, Seamer Sports will play FC Rosette or Cayton Corinthians, who meet on January 17.
