BROOKLYN got back up and running in the North Riding County FA Women’s League after four games without a win as a fantastic team performance brought a 5-3 victory at York St John University.

Brooklyn pressed early on but they needed goalkeeper Lorna Cumming to keep the scoresheet blank after Sarah Jaques handled in the area to give St John a penalty. Cumming saved the spot-kick and made a similarly super stop from the rebound.

Brooklyn still found themselves behind after a counter-attack by the students but they immediately responded as Aimee Machin smashed a volley against the bar, with the ball eventually being turned in by Esme Bulmer.

Skipper Anna Spragg got her first after another free-flowing move to give Brooklyn a 2-1 half-time lead.

Brooklyn gave opportunities to squad players after the break, with Karlie McGinty impressing throughout the half in midfield.

They were nevertheless pegged back against the run of play but again responded well as in-form left-winger Bulmer - the player of the match - and Spragg both hit their second goals to make it 4-2.

The hosts still weren’t done and got back into the game on 70 minutes with a long-range effort after Machin and Cumming had blocked initial strikes. But Brooklyn - for whom Sheena Tiffney impressed in a new striker’s role - were then given a penalty on 85 minutes and Spragg duly completed her hat-trick.
