Ryedale School's Year 10 rugby union team have won the East Yorkshire title for the third year running.

Playing in a three-team round robin tournament at Driffield Rugby Club, Ryedale beat Winifred Holtby School 17-0 and Wolfreton College 5-0 thanks to a penalty try to lift the crown.

Against Winifred Holtby, Ryedale's pack, led well by captain Owen Hayhurst, took an early grip on the game, dominating the breakdown and consistently turning the ball over, but the opposition always threatened with their pace.

The first try came when Rory Talling turned the ball over on the opposition 22, before Ryan Metcalfe side-stepped in.

Further good work in the rucks by Henry Wainwright and James Rule saw Ryan Hamblett pick up a loose ball and power through to the posts.

The second half was much the same, with Winifred Holtby breaking the line a couple of times only to be held up, with the ball turned over. Billy Garritty sealed victory.

Wolfreton had an imposing pack and were well organised in the backs but the majority of play was in their half.

Just before half-time, turnover ball was passed out to Keaton Watson, who sidestepped his man and fed Ryan Metcalfe, who ran on the outside of his marker only to be taken out by a high tackle just before scoring - the referee awarding a penalty try.

Wolfreton had one last chance after breaking through but were halted by a diving tackle by Rory Talling, who subsequently got to his feet and ripped the ball.

RYEDALE School won the inaugural Scarborough & District Key Stage 3 girls' football trophy thanks to a 5-2 win over Scalby in the final at Kirkbymoorside.

Lucy Nicholls (2), Faye Thornton, Ceri Stone and Grace Walker got the goals.

Ryedale dominated throughout and used the wide open spaces to great effect.

Morwenna Talling was excellent in defence, allowing the more attacking players to create chances. Walker and Thornton were the key players in attack, with the former scoring the goal of the game with a rasping drive from 25 yards into the top corner.

RYEDALE School's Year 7 netball team, having won the Scarborough & District Cup and the North Yorkshire finals, played in the Yorkshire regional finals at the Sports Arena in Hull. They finished a fantastic fourth overall of the eight team, winning four games and losing to the three teams that finished above them.
