MALTON School's Year 7 boys have lifted the Scarborough & District Football Cup after overcoming Scalby School in the final.

After a close first half, where both teams created chances, Joseph Matique broke the deadlock with a strike from outside the penalty area.

Scalby came out on the attack in the second half, equalised and continued to push for a second goal. However, excellent work from Monty Pegrum in defence and Josh Lee in midfield helped to keep the score level.

Ten minutes from time, Von Sumsard majestically played the ball through to Ben Illsley, who neatly slotted the ball past the goalkeeper for the winner.

Andy Hodgson, head of PE at Malton, said: “This was a well-deserved win for the team who have been outstanding throughout the season.

"They have played with spirit and enthusiasm and becoming district champions for 2014 is a fitting reward for their effort and determination.”
