BROOKLYN Under-16s put in one of their best performances of the season but fell 2-0 to Pocklington Predators in a hard-fought York Minor League encounter.

James Barrett and Arron Dews caused the Pock defence problems but, despite being largely on top, Brooklyn failed to convert any of the several good chances they created.

Pocklington took the lead with a dubious penalty and sealed victory with a great finish - but only after Brooklyn man-of-the-match Liam Wheeler was seemingly wiped out in the build-up.

Heslerton U16s edged Goldsborough 4-3 in their final fixture of the Scarborough Minor League season - and possibly their last fixture together.

The marksmen were man-of-thematch Brandon Lee Horsfall, Johnny Reed and Harry Walmsley (2).

Harvey Townley scored a hat-trick but it was Keelan Simpson who was man of the match as Brooklyn U15s beat Tockwith 3-2.

Tockwith had the wind advantage in the first half but it was 2-2 at the break and Townley got the winner.

Jack Villa Fordon scored a hattrick as Old Malton St Mary’s U13s played superbly to beat Poppleton Panthers 5-1.

A Villa Fordon brace sandwiched an exquisite finish by Sam Mann, who had been set up by Theo Wilkie.

Poppleton’s attack was snuffed out by Thomas Cockerill and Matthew Jefferson until a misjudgement from ‘keeper Finlay Tunman saw them pull a goal back.

Villa Fordon, though, completed his treble and then forced an error from the Poppleton ‘keeper for his Saints’ fifth goal.

Tom Warburton was voted players’ player of the match as Brooklyn U13s edged Woodthorpe to complete a quick double after victory over the same opposition last week.

Woodthorpe dominated the first half and took the lead despite impressive defending from Gabriel Urquhart.

Warburton twice scored from corners and, although the York side levelled, Stephen Kerr snatched victory with a belter from outside the box.

A Joseph Matique hat-trick helped Old Malton U12s to a 5-2 victory at Easingwold.

Josh Lee also finished well from just inside the box and Joe Barker added his name to the scoresheet, while Old Malton ‘keeper Zak Thompson pulled off an excellent save to frustrate the hosts. William Thomas, Von Sumsard and Patryk Jadczuk stood out.

Jordan Anderson and Mattie Nicholson both went close but Pickering Town U12s lost 2-0 to Burlington Jackdaws.

Pickering Town U11s beat Rufforth Gliders 6-0 to avenge a cup defeat earlier in the season and keep them on course for the York & Ryedale Mitchell Sports League division two title.

Rufforth had the wind advantage in the first half and forced a succession of corners, Isaac Finch clearing one effort off the line.

However, Billy Fewster put them ahead as his shot from outside the box was dropped by the goalkeeper and trickled in.

Five goals followed in the second half. Finch set up Morgan Kendrew to score before scoring himself, running onto Tom Warriner’s fine ball.

Finch won possession and fed Toby Dale who beat two men and set up Noah Gittins to score.

A Finch cross was volleyed in by Sam Jenkins and Charlie Hancock ran through to wrap up a convincing win.

Thornton-le-Dale Under-14s edged past Scarborough Sports 1-0 in the Scarborough & District Minor League.

Ben Norman scored the only goal of an end-to-end game played in very difficult windy conditions.
