RYEDALE School beat Lady Lumley’s School, Pickering, in the final of the Scarborough & District Year 8 basketball tournament.
Ryedale beat Scarborough’s Graham School 43-2 in the semi-final, and some excellent rebounding and shooting from Dan Ward and James Farrow led to a 17-7 victory in the final.
Ryedale School also had success in the Year 9 Scarborough & District netball tournament.
Ryedale hosted the event and entered two sides. The ‘A’ team, led brilliantly by Faye Thornton, dominated the competition, winning all five of their matches to bag the maximum 25 points. They scored 45 goals in beating Lady Lumley’s, Malton, Eskdale, Caedmon and their own ‘B’ team. A great team effort saw excellent defending from Grace Walker and Becca Silk and great shooting from Thornton.
Ryedale also won their Year 7 fixtures at St Martin’s Ampleforth. Ryedale’s ‘A’ team won their match 21-0 with some excellent work in attack from Abi Smith, and their ‘B’ team won 18-0, Rosie Preston starring.
TERRINGTON Hall’s under-9s won their team event at St Martin’s Ampleforth’s cross-country meet.
Terrington’s U13s boys, U13s girls and U11s boys each came third in their respective races.
Terrington Hall’s director of sport, Mark Langley, said: “There were a number of individual performances to be extremely proud of, including Freddie Black, who came in second for the U9s, and Joe Browne and Hannah Cowen, who came in fifth and third respectively for the U13 boys and girls.”
