YORK Golf Club’s Julian Taylor has scooped a prized award in America.
The 19-year-old is the National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics (NAIA) recipient of the Phil Mickelson award as the outstanding men’s golf freshman of the year.
The award is presented annually by the Phil and Amy Mickelson Foundation in conjunction with the Golf Coaches Association of America.
Taylor finished the season with a stroke average of 73.5 per round and finished in the top 20 in all ten tournaments in the season, capturing three tournament wins.
He finished tied for eighth in the NAIA men’s national championship, carding a new 72-hole record score of 292 (76-73-68-75; +4).
Said Mike Wells, the York GC secretary: “The members have every right to feel proud of his achievements and we wish him continued success in the States.”
Meanwhile, back on home turf the York GC second team trophy play-off winners were Mark Little and Andy Crookham, who edged out Alan Jamieson and Phil Pacey. Chris Dower and Alan Walmsley were third.
