Kirkbymoorside Golf Club’s ladies’ team are through to the third round of the nationwide Mail On Sunday competition.

The team comprising Hazel Fletcher, Ann Farndale, captain Val Sinclair, Sue Clements and Claire Dyson beat Thirsk & Northallerton Ladies 4-1 in the first round at Kirkbymoorside.

They then won at The York. The match was tied 2½-2½ after five matches and Fletcher put her team through by winning in a sudden death play-off at the second extra hole. Three pairs of Kirkbymoorside ladies also overcame wintry conditions to take three out of the seven prizes on offer in a four-ball better-ball competition at the February meeting of the Coastal Ladies Winter Golf Alliance, held at Scarborough South Cliff.

Fletcher and Pauline Griffiths came first on 74 points, with Farndale and Dyson fourth on 81, and Sinclair and Clements fifth on 81.

Kirkbymoorside ladies also played their Christmas Turkey Trot competition, which was postponed due the severe weather in December, as a Chicken Run competition. The format was a Texas Scramble in teams of three. First were Farndale, Edna Stead and Joan Stevens, second were Fletcher, Felicity Eastgate and Amanda Pickles, third were Clements, Chris Clarke and Val Greening and fourth were Sarah Hayman, Meryl Sands and Isa Eggleston.

The consolation prize went to Chris Smith, Jean Taylor and Ann Wood.
