AFTER a two-month enforced absence due to the weather, Old Malton Girls made a winning return to action at home to Redcar in the North Riding County Cup last weekend.
Malton flew out of the traps, opening the scoring through Lucy Raines after good work from Milly Bowes.
A second soon followed as Molly Skelton showed her strength and speed down the left flank before the hosts increased their lead further when Olivia Drew hit a great first-time shot into the bottom corner.
Having only conceded five all season, Redcar were left stunned by their opponents’ attack, and Malton did not let up in their attacking press, taking a comfortable lead into half time.
The visitors responded after the break, pulling a goal back before Skelton scored her second, and Malton’s fourth goal.
Redcar though did not give up, coming back strongly to score twice late on, but it was the hosts who progressed into the Quarter Finals, where they will face Bishopthorpe in a few weeks’ time.
