RYEDALE Sports Club beat Hunmanby United to leap out of the relegation places in the Scarborough & District League first division on Saturday.

The 5-2 win was only their third league victory of the season.

The star man was Martin Foxton, who headed the only goal of the first half and went on to bag a hat-trick. Sam Turnbull, for whom Foxton turned provider, and Chris Rhodes completed the Ryedale scoring.

League leaders West Pier beat Sleights 5-0 to maintain their 100 per cent record, with their goals scored by Ali Caw, Tommy Barker, Luke Delve, Martin Cooper with a penalty and substitute Neil Thomas.

Filey Town are second after a 4-0 victory against Whitby Fishermen with goals by John Emmerson, Cameron Dobson, Danny Price and Gary Wardell, with Ricky Tomlinson the man of the match.

Newlands Park beat fellow high-fliers Edgehill 2-1.

Jack Hakings headed Newlands into the lead from a free-kick, but former Pickering Town player Dean Craig equalised for Edgehill after they had a James Webb goal disallowed.

Two minutes into the second half, Newlands Park were awarded a penalty when Edgehill keeper Martin Cappleman brought down Danny Jenkinson and Sean Exley scored from the spot.

Whitby RUFC increased their lead at the top of division two to six points by beating second-placed Filey Town reserves 3-1.

Filey took a 20th-minute lead but Whitby hit back through Dave Welham, Ben Sullivan and Mikey Kilpatrick.

Athletico 2B and Scalby drew a thriller 3-3. Scalby twice went ahead through Dan Peel and Ashley Townley but Sam Swift and Jackson Jowett netted equalisers and Ben David then put Athletico ahead.

Scalby drew level with a fine goal by Dan Argyle, a late substitute, seven minutes from time.

Division three leaders Seamer Sports reserves beat Eastway Sports 1-0, the only goal being scored by Kris Tate midway through the second half after brilliant work by Danny Glendinning.
