MARK EARLE’S stunning summer for Westow continued with yet another HPH York Vale League century.

His unbeaten 111 guided his side to victory against Selby in division two and took his haul of runs to beyond 600 in a rain-hit season. More than 400 of those runs have come in his last three innings, his latest ton following his remarkable 213 against Heworth and 101 against Clifton Alliance.

Selby won the toss and opted to bat, making 188-3 with Steve Sherwood remaining undefeated on 111. But Sherwood’s innings was matched by Westow captain Earle, who caned a dozen fours and six sixes off the Heworth attack.

He found willing allies in Jamie Smith (25) and Ross Kellock (20) to take the villagers to a four-wicket win with five overs to spare.

Malton & Old Malton produced a fine bowling and fielding display to limit Dunnington to 121-9 in division three. Steve Oldfield grabbed 4-30 while Kieran Windress (2-20) and Ollie Varey (2-32) also got among the wickets.

The Gannock side were in a bit of trouble when fifth-wicket pair Chris Binnington and Ross Harland came together but they added 71 in rapid time to see Malt to victory, Binnington (58no) striking two sixes to reach his half century. Harland finished on 30 not out.

Malton’s second string capped a fine day for the club’s two Vale sides by beating Ovington III in division four.

Ovington were soon in trouble at 32-3 and, despite a half-century from Andrew Tomlinson, were bowled out for 113. Mick Liversidge returned a fine analysis of 6.4-2-11-4 and Thiagu 3-28, Dan Ingham claiming a couple of victims behind the stumps. Thiagu followed his good bowling display with an unbeaten 34 to guide Malton to victory.

Des Healey’s 60 not out was in vain as eight-man Stamford Bridge lost by seven wickets at Burton Salmon.
