THE Star played out a second consecutive draw in darts’ Yorkshire Superleague, a 4-4 share-all with Frickley thanks to a superb last effort by Pickering’s Phil Bointon.

Star got off to a flier as Ryedale pair Billy Hague and Toddy Oldfield rattled off convincing wins. Hague continued his fine form to beat Ray Heppinstall 4-2, while Oldfield saw off Jamie Ogley 4-1.

John Spoors, another Ryedale man, was recalled to the line-up and threw 14 ton-plus scores but lost 4-2 to John Utley, missed doubles proving costly.

Jim Gordon fell 4-2 to Sean Davis, missed doubles again costly, and fellow Scarborough man Graham Elvidge suffered a disappointing 4-1 defeat in a poor match against Keith Ogley.

Rillington’s Paul Bulmer struck back with a 4-0 victory over Yorkshire legend Gerry Haywood, including a classy highest possible finish of 170.

Alan Dawson was whitewashed by man-of-the-match Ian Hartley despite playing some great darts and hitting a 180.

Bointon rescued the draw for Star as he beat Neil Pawson 4-3. After racing 2-0 up, Bointon trailed 3-2 after missing a series of doubles, but he showed his class to seal the victory with 17 and 19-dart legs.
