CARP proved to be elusive for John Haw in the York midweek match at Pool Bridge Farm last Wednesday but he still managed to win with 12lb 10oz of silver fish.

Sitting at peg 20 on the Horseshoe lake and fishing caster on the 11-metre pole, he tempted four skimmers up to the 2lb mark plus plenty of smaller roach.

Runner-up Colin Sherwood managed to locate a brace of small carp at peg 14 to make up roughly half of his catch, topping up with silver fish to end the day with 12lb 6oz.

Terry Tierney bagged a pair of 12lb carp with feeder and corn tactics to comfortably win Westland’s AC’s Tuesday match on the big tench lake with 25lb.

Sitting at peg 18, he also added around 1lb of silver fish with pole and bread punch.

Travelling companion Phil Roberts secured second place off peg 17 with 11lb 12oz.

A bad weather forecast and hard going compelled Westland’s AC to call a premature end to their Friday match at Brooklands Lake and proceeding halted at 1pm instead of the usual 3pm.

Alan Creaser drew fancied peg one and alternated between the pole and waggler with maggot for bait to take 4lb 6oz of rudd. Tierney was the only other angler to break the 1lb barrier with 2lb 2oz of silver fish off peg two.

Brian Hewitt had a busy day on the five-metre pole with maggot at Rosedale Fishery, taking lots of roach and the odd perch from peg 18 to win Phoenix Angling Veterans’ match with 13lb 12oz.

Tony Mellor sat close by at peg 19 and secured second place with 8lb 6oz.
