CAN you help solve the mystery of this 110-year-old picture?

Colin Pickering is hoping Gazette & Herald readers can help him put together the pieces from this team shot of Thornton-le-Dale footballers in the 1904/05 season.

He was handed the picture by Edward Marflit, whose father John played centre forward for the team and is on the picture.

He said: “We are trying to find out when Thornton-le-Dale FC was formed. Unfortunately, we don’t know which league the team played in or five of the players who played in that team.

“If any Gazette & Herald readers can help, please could they phone 01751 472417.”

It has since been discovered that Thornton-le-Dale first joined the Scarborough & District League in 1906 – but in which competition did they play before then, and who are the missing names?

The photograph was taken in front of the Hill Memorial Institute, in Thornton-le-Dale.
