CURTIS ROSE was a thorn in Ryedale Sports Club’s side as they suffered a 2-1 defeat at Westover Wasps in the Scarborough & District League first division on Saturday.

Rose scored in each half to put Westover in command. Sam Turnbull pulled a goal back for Ryedale 10 minutes from time with a well-placed header.

Harry Reed in centre midfield was Ryedale’s man of the match, with Ryan Matson shining for Westover.

Hunmanby United moved up into fifth after a comfortable 3-1 home win against Seamer Sports.

Chris Crawford and Lee Johnson put the home two up and, although Matty Forsyth halved the deficit, Cameron Dobson restored Hunmanby’s two-goal advantage.

In the second division, Rillington Athletic were well beaten 6-0 at home by Scalby, for whom Carl Townley hit a hat-trick, including a penalty. Richard Simpson, Ashley Townley and Danny Wedge also netted.

Luke Delve scored four goals to help Newlands Park reserves win 5-1 at home to Filey Town reserves. An own goal also found the net, as did Matty Gill for Filey.

Flixton lost 2-1 at home to Cayton Corinthians. Luke Newbold fired Cayton in front and, although Rob Dixon equalised, Jake McAleese won it for Cayton in the second half.

Snainton got back to winning ways with a 3-0 victory at Rosette thanks to goals by Leigh Watson, Liam Mintoft and Sam Wallace.

In the third division, second-placed Whitby RUFC won 6-0 at Seamer Sports with strikes by Marc Usher, Steve Ross and an own goal supplemented by a Steve Jobling hat-trick.

The two cup games played on Saturday both went to penalties.

In the League Cup, Scalby reserves drew 2-2 with Ayton reserves, with Ayton winning the shoot-out 5-4.

In the Frank White Trophy, league newcomers Commercial drew 5-5 with West Pier reserves before winning 4-1 on penalties.
