EMMA BROWN and Chris Halley have lauded Malton & Norton Golf Club, saying their home course has helped them to enjoy another successful season.

The Ryedale club have staged their annual prize presentation after a season to remember, particularly for Brown and Halley, who were quick to say the course and practice facilities have aided their game.

The former clinched the Yorkshire Ladies’ crown in May, completing a hat-trick of championships, while Halley later brought home the prestigious Yorkshire Amateur champion title and then the Yorkshire Order of Merit crown at the end of term, having won six of the seven events he entered – a new record for the most victories.

Halley said: “With a covered driving range and an outstanding short game area to practice on, my game really has improved this season.

“The course has been in tremendous condition, and everyone at the club has supported me in every way possible.”

Brown, a member for nearly 30 years, says she feels at home at the club.

“I have been a member here for a long time, and really enjoy the challenge of the course,” she said.

“The greens have been in the best condition I have ever seen, and I really enjoy playing here with my friends and family.”

All of the winners of Malton & Norton’s 2013 competitions attended the presentation evening last Friday. Captain David Midgley said: “It was great to see so many people collecting their trophies.

“The greens staff have prepared the course beautifully this season, and we have some of the best greens in the area.

“The club is going through a period of development. We have new caterers, a relaxed dress code in the clubhouse and a friendly professional team ready to welcome our members and guests. It really is an exciting time at the club.”
