Coneysthorpe ‘A’ regained top spot in division one of the Ryedale League with a maximum points 8-2 win over Amotherby ‘B’.

Helmsley ‘A’ ensured the top three in the table went 13 points clear of fourth-placed Swinton ‘A’ thanks to a 9-1 defeat of Ryedale ‘C’.

Trevor Teasdale was the only winner for Ryedale ‘C’.

Ryedale ‘D’ lost their first match in division two, 6-4 to Amotherby ‘C’.

Amotherby’s Russ Grimshaw continued his excellent form, inflicting only the second defeat of the season on Tich Temple, and then teaming up with Tom Thorpe to win the deciding doubles.

Swinton ‘B’ won 8-2 against a Helmsley ‘B’ who were strengthened by the return of Andrew Cavanagh, who troubled Howard Mayne with spinny serves and third ball attacks, only for erratic play to cost him in the end, allowing Mayne the victory.

Helmsley’s much-improved Guy Harris had all of the Swinton team struggling, his assured touch on both forehand and backhand gaining many winners, but the extra game experience of Pat Swindell and Mayne proved decisive.

Harris did beat the third Swinton player, Dave Walker, who in turn finally broke his league duck with a win over James Ellis.

Swindell and Mayne took the doubles to give Swinton maximum points.

In their second game of the week, Helmsley ‘B’ gained their first win of the season, 6-4 over Ryedale ‘E’.

Amotherby climbed to second.
