REQUIRING only five points to clinch the third division title, Duncombe Park took the honours in style when they beat relegation haunted Scarborough by nine wickets in a game played at Scarborough College due to Yorkshire’s unsuccessful activity at North Marine Road.

There was home batting success from Ash Kundi (74), Josh Mainprize (42) and J Finnigan (30) in a total of 193-5. The Helmsley side were then given a sound start by C Campbell and Brian Leckenby before the former fell for 67.

Leckenby then went on to lift his seasonal aggregate to 1,073 with an unbeaten 63 as he and Alistair Holmes (37no) clinched a ninewicket victory.

A productive stand between Tom Harrison 57no and Joel Wilford 84no projected Sheriff Hutton to an eight-wicket triumph at Sessay which maintained the Castlemens' second place. Earlier, Yorkshire Ladies player Jess Watson had made 44 in Sessay’s 149-7 Batting first at Hovingham, Acomb were able to post a total of 219-7. Steve Mosey was the pick of the home bowling with 3- 40.

After the tea break, Dave Bowling hit 50 and Will Lund 47 but A Stroughair took 3-33 to reduce Hovingham to 130-9 and almost certainly end their hopes of moving up a level.

At the foot of division four in the Hunters York & District Senior League, Pickering earned valuable points in their attempt to stave off relegation with a draw at Huby.

Kieron Boyes took 3-49 and Adrian Boyes 3-57 as Huby posted 228-9. Pickering opted for a degree of safety as they lost only four wickets in moving to 179-4.

Batsmen to show were Les Welburn 73, Ryan Taylor 39 and Tim Whincup 31.

Picking up 22 points, Huby need only five more from their final two games to ensure safety.

Pickering earned 13 points to open the gap between them and 11th-placed Goole to 13 points.

However, the Pikes have two testing games against the top two sides, Patrington and Hull Zingari, so are by no means out of the woods.

Malton & Old Malton did their neighbours a favour by beating Goole.

Jake Mahoney’s 69 was the top shot in Goole’s 186-6 as Linsley claimed 3-52. Oliver Gilbank’s 44 then took Malton to a winning 189-8
