GILLAMOOR have enjoyed a Feversham League double – and now have a treble in sight.

The Gills, fresh from taking the championship outright for the first time in 30 years, added another trophy when proving too strong for High Farndale in the Supplementary Cup final, winning by the comfortable margin of 44 runs.

They lost in the top-four play-offs (see below), but are also in the 20 overs-a-side Countess of Feversham Cup final, which takes place on Sunday, with Duncombe Park the visitors, wickets pitched 11am.

Playing on their own ground, Gillamoor batted first in the Supplementary showdown and were given an ideal start by Mark Haines, who quickly reached 26 before having to retire in accordance with the rules. He was able to resume later but failed to add to his score.

Ian Smith batted competently in his 25 retired, supplemented by four not out at the end of the innings, to collect the man-of-the-match trophy, while Tom Munday (17), Will Watson (16) and Alec Medd (15) produced valuable knocks to take their side to 126 all out.

Four High Farndale bowlers – Mark Fairweather, Richard Thompson, Dave Gardner and Chris Wilson persevered and were rewarded with two wickets apiece.

Farndale’s hopes in reply depended much on Stuart Dowson getting them off to a good start. He endured a rare failure but had the consolation of winning the trophy for the best batting performance thanks to his display in the semi-finals.

Rob Atkinson, who played a marvellous 29 retired, and Dave Gardner (22) kept those hopes alive, but Farndale had no big hitters down the order. Richard Thompson (11) tried hard, but Gillamoor bowlers Mike Wearmouth (3-11), Watson (2-9) and Adam Durrant (2- 16) proved too good, and Farndale ended on a valiant 82-8 when the 18 overs expired.

Duncombe Park and Gillamoor got one of their two outstanding league matches played.

The one at Gillamoor was rained off but the one at Duncombe gave an opportunity for young players of both clubs to show their wares.

Gillamoor’s 82-3 in 18 overs was dominated by Matt Durrant’s hardhitting 38, supported by K McCrystal (19). Park, though, overtook this total with two overs to spare. Adam Leckenby, whose performances in the league this season auger well for the future, was undefeated on 27. Jack Cranage (25) and promising junior Toby Higgs (20) earned the points for Park, who won by seven wickets.
