I COMPLAINED to North Yorkshire County Council about traffic turning into Norton Road, Norton, in 2012. It is a dangerous road junction as pedestrians are too busy watching the other junctions before crossing the road, especially after a train has passed through.

I suggested that they put more road signs nearer towards the junction saying, “No right turn”.

They said they could not do that because it is a listed bridge, but they would paint on the road “Ahead only” once the road had been resurfaced.

The road has been resurfaced, but there are still no road markings.

On October 21, last year, I was crossing the road when a man turned in from Malton and I informed him that there was no turning in.

His behaviour was threatening and he swore at me. I reported him to the police through his registration number and wrote to the council once again.

On November 17, the council wrote back to me. I quote from their letter: “I am sorry to hear you are experiencing continuing difficulties at the County Bridge/Norton Road junction. You will be pleased to know that we are taking advantage of the current road closures for maintenance works at Malton level crossing to introduce ‘AHEAD ONLY’ markings on County Bridge to reinforce the existing right-hand turn ban”.

The maintenance work has been completed, but there are no road markings.

It seems that I have heard promises like this so many times before.
