ON Sunday, May 30, I was on my way to have Mother’s Day lunch with my daughter and son-in-law in Keldholme, Kirkbymoorisde. I was nearly at the top of Newgate Bank when I had a puncture. I continued to the top of the bank in order to park.
To my horror, I found that my mobile phone had run of out credit, I was very worried. There were only empty cars in sight, so I decided to flag down a car and ask to borrow a phone.
A black 4x4 (I think) with a trailer attached came along opposite and I moved to flag it down. The driver stopped, reversed and came across the road and asked if I was in trouble.
This knight in shining armour was called Stuart and had a wife and son and daughter in the car. His daughter, Lucy was 11.
He insisted on changing the wheel for me, which he did quickly and skilfully, while his family, who were on the way to Stokesley for Mother’s Day lunch, waited patiently in the car.
I was more grateful than I can say and would like to think that my good Samaritan and his family will read this letter, because I am sending them a huge thank-you.
My daughter and son-in-law were very impressed and I had a happy day thanks to the kindness of strangers.
