NORTON councillors have been promised repairs to the town’s Church Street are a priority in 2015/16.

The town council has been pressing for the road to be resurfaced due to the number of potholes.

However, North Yorkshire County Council has now told them that although it is high on the list for work, it will not take place until the next financial year.

Councillor David Lloyd-Williams said this meant it could be another 12 months before anything happened. “When they do finally get round to the work, perhaps we could ask if the railings near the zebra crossing that were damaged seven or eight years ago could be repaired,” he said.

“Our roads are getting worse especially Church Street is looks like something in an Eastern European state.”

Councillor Di Keal said the road had been a priority in 2013.

“Yet we are still waiting. Perhaps we could also remind them about the promise to put gullies under the road for flooding emergencies,” she said.

“Could we also point out the island near the level crossing which nears repair work and where elderly person fell recently and broke her cheek bone.”

The council agreed to write to the highways department.
