AS VISITOR attractions across North and East Yorkshire gear up for the season ahead, two popular venues are hoping to pull in the crowds with their new residents.
Two new Sumatran tigers are among the line-up at Flamingo Land, near Malton.
Sumatran tigers are the smallest species of tiger and there are fewer than 300 currently living in the wild.
Surya, a two-year-old female, and Bawa, a three-year-old male, arrived at Flamingo Land as part of a European zoo breeding programme.
It is hoped the young cats will breed within the next few years.
Visitors can also see Flamingo Land’s Humboldt Penguins in their new, purpose-built enclosure, and a baby Mara which was born only yesterday just as our award-winning chief photographer, Garry Atkinson, arrived at the zoo.
Maras are large rodents that are indigenous to the open plains of central and southern Argentina.
A Mara has large ears like a rabbit and its body and legs are similar to those of a small deer.
• Flamingo Land is now open every day from 10am – 4pm.
