THE Malton Food Lovers’ Festival on Saturday is set to be one of the most delicious events in the summer calendar, with the presence of some high-achieving foodie females.

Celebrated and award-winning, these Yorkshire girls can certainly provide a recipe for success. Stephanie Moon, the multi-award winning chef, will be showing what can be done with her passion for local foods.

Susan Simpson, joint owner of the Brown Cow Brewery will be creating a new celebration beer for the first ever Malton beer festival. Betty’s Cookery School, the brainchild of Lesley Wild, partner in Bettys and Taylors, will be providing succulent recipes and demonstrating how to achieve them.

North East Food Hero Sophie Legard will share some of the freshly-made dishes that are the trademark style of her much-admired deli, Malton Relish, plus Yorkshire’s Elaine Lemm, currently editor and writer on British and Irish food for the New York Times’s About British Food website and with many appearances on TV and radio, is the festival MC for the cooking demonstrations.

On top of that there will be a real sense of theatre for the whole family with demonstrations from local Michelin-starred chefs and other hospitality businesses playing leading roles in the the top quality foodie fest. And as if that isn’t enough, more than 50 stalls will be there, offering wonderful local food and drink.

For the first time there will be a Malton Beer Festival and Real Ale Bar as part of the event.

It will take place between noon and 11pm, and will showcase about 20 real ales and ciders sourced from across the region but with specific emphasis on the local area and hosted by CAMRA winner Suddabys.

A new beer will be launched at the festival, created by brewster Sue Philips of the Brown Cow Brewery. The new beer is based on Belgium wheat and fruit beer with orange and cardamom notes, with a 4.6% strength. There will also be only the second brewing of the rousing Thriller in Vanilla from Tiger Tops Brewery, a porter which really packs a punch at 5.15%.

There is plenty to occupy younger children during the Malton Food Lovers’ Festival with Punch and Judy, traditional rides and games, face painting and one of the all time favourites, a story teller.

The event is free to attend, £1.50 for parking all day and free buses from the car park.

The Producers’ Market

This will be the largest local food market seen in Malton in recent years and will carry more than 50 stalls.

There has been tremendous interest in taking stalls at the Food Lovers’ Festival Producers Market, and there is a long waiting list. There is a huge variety of produce on offer from Sand Hutton asparagus and Yorkshire chillies to Riverford Home Farm organics to Ledstone Estate game.

Add to that the award-winning Sloe Motion alcoholic spirits, truffles and chutney and you have a true cornucopia of flavours and taste sensations to try, buy and enjoy.

It is a real tribute to the local Malton food sector.
