CONGRATULATIONS to the organisers of the Motor Show, it really was an excellent event and proves just what can be achieved when everyone is prepared to work together for the benefit of Malton and Norton.

There was a very warm and friendly atmosphere throughout the towns which, for those of us who know, is typical of the towns, and I have no doubt will attract Sunday casual visitors back again.

Malton and Norton are not dying towns, and those who say so are doing a disservice to the area.

The town centre car parks are almost always full, the shops offer good quality goods, the shop attendants are welcoming and friendly, the business parks are full and thriving and we have a Town Centre Manager and a Programme Manager for the Malton & Norton Area Partnership now in post and, with the goodwill that was shown on Sunday, I have no doubt that the Motor Show will only be the start of a bright future for the towns.

They do not need to compete with Ryedale's other market towns which are more the tourist centres as Malton and Norton are the commercial centre of Ryedale.
