A BOY from Hong Kong is settling into a Ryedale prep school this week as part of a national scheme to encourage parents to educate their children in the UK.

Joe Bao, aged 11, is staying at Woodleigh School in Langton, and is one of nearly 150 Millennium scholars taking advantage of the scheme which gives children the chance to stay in a British boarding school for a month.

Jointly organised by the Independent Schools Council and the British Council it is hoped the scheme will bring more overseas students to the UK.

Fiona Bartlett from the British Council said: "The pupils have been selected, in most cases, by competition and the suitability of the candidates to act as ambassadors for their country."
