THE story of the Bugthorpe Sword provided the inspiration for children from a village school who made their own video film.

Year Five and Six children from Bugthorpe Primary School in East Yorkshire put together a story based on the sword which was found in the village 150 years ago.

The sword (pictured) is actually a scabbard from the Iron Age with an inscription, which is now in the British Museum.

The film tells the fictional story of a greedy archaeologist who wants the sword to himself, but is thwarted by the children of Bugthorpe.

Teacher Ian Jones said they had had help from one of the children's uncles, William Wardell, who works at the British Museum, as well as from their local community policeman, PC Bob Crabtree, who provided more useful information for the drama.

The film was premiered for an audience of parents in school.

It was made thanks to funding the school received via the East Riding of Yorkshire Council's "creative context" scheme, which encouraged schools to bid for money for such projects.
