PUPILS at Luttons School have been reliving wartime celebrations - and tasting the delights of Spam, Marmite and jelly.

Students, teachers and parents organised a VE celebration day as part of the pupils' history studies, and held a street party in the village.

"We like to bring history to life," said headteacher, Tracey Gilbank. "But a lot of pupils went home with Spam sandwiches in their pockets - I don't think they were too impressed with them."

The day included a puppet show, organised by the children, and traditional games such as pin the tail on the donkey.

Veterans of the Second World War have already come to the school to speak of their experiences to students at the school aged between four and 11. The school is now looking forward to a WWII concert to be held on Monday, November 12.
