OLD MALTON skipper Mike Dunkley believes his side's next game against Wakefield on Saturday is crucial in their bid for promotion to Yorkshire Four.

Following their 5-0 win against Doncaster last Saturday, Old Malton currently hold the second promotion spot in Yorkshire Five but rivals Boston Spa lie just two points behind them with a game in hand.

With six games to go, it means they can afford no slip-ups if they are to stay in the top two.

And according to Dunkley, his side's trip to Wakefield this Saturday could be the toughest of the lot.

He said: "They won their last game 11-1 and have also beaten Doncaster 6-1. They are just coming strong so it ought to be our toughest game as we have beaten all the other sides we have left to play."

After finishing midtable last season, Old Malton have stepped up a gear this year.

Centre-forward Andy Harvey has been more prolific than ever. Having won the top league goalscorer award for the last two years, he is on course for a third success, having already bagged 31 goals this campaign.

Dunkley emphasised, however, that consistent team performances were the main factor behind this year's improvement.
