SNAINTON cricket club have just enjoyed what is almost certainly their most successful season in their history.

Between the firsts and the seconds, the club have picked up an incredible five trophies and gained two promotions. On top of winning promotion to the Scarborough Beckett League from the Derwent Valley League, the firsts have won the Home Guard Sunday Cup, the Atlas Ward Cup and the McCain Evening League Cup. Not to be outdone, the seconds have lifted the Welford Cup, the Andy Hire Cup and have gained promotion to division A of the Derwent Valley League.

Club chairman Clive Watson beamed: "It's been a thoroughly enjoyable season. Both teams have had great team spirit and the village has really got behind us." He added that both teams had inspired and supported one another.

For the first team, all-rounder Craig Sanderson has been in outstanding form, with both bat and ball. Among others, opener Alan Huby, skipper Leigh Watson and keeper Paul Nicholson have all been in the runs. Watson's leg breaks have also caused the opposition plenty of problems. Juniors Liam Cooper and James Barrett have impressed after making the step up from the second team.

For the seconds, some performances of note include a century from Paul Bowater, whilst Kevin Spence and Clive Watson have had eight-wicket hauls.

The club is hoping to add to their bulging trophy cabinet this Sunday, when they meet Staxton in the Major Walker final at Malton.
