RE Gazette & Herald issue dated August 14, 'Residents want answers.'

I quote: "Pickering flood defence engineer Paul Longlands said a feasibility study had been done looking at the idea of dredging the beck, but said that the scheme would prove to be unsustainable." The people of Pickering and district want sustainable options for clearing the waterways. Surplus water needs clear channels so that it flows freely at all times. Maintenance of the beck is the only way to get rid of excess water when it comes at all times. Therefore we must have sustainable maintenance of the beck continually.

I understand the Ministry of the Environment does cover the dredging of the beck; let's see they get the responsibility. They have the money and are wasting it on other matters but not getting rid of surplus water. Mr Fisher, the landlord of the Rose Inn of Pickering, and Mr Clitheroe of the Beck Isle Museum are quite right in saying let's have the dredging done and organised but on a sustainable option.
