AMPLEFORTH Synchronised Swimming Club took two teams to Aireborough Leisure Centre at Guiesley, near Leeds, to compete in the North Eastern Counties Grade One and Two synchronised swimming competitions.

The club have only been in existence for two years and when they entered the same competition last year, it was clear that they had a long way to go if they were to compete successfully at this level.

Following a change of coaching staff, the team has excelled, the A team claiming a magnificent third place. On the individual front Lucy Harrison, aged 12, from Slingsby, came tenth out of 59 competitors.

Team B had their first outing at the event and won first prize for sportsmanship after a mix-up with the judging that meant they had to hand back medals presented to them by a judging panel that wasn't quite as synchronised as it should have been.

Anyone interested in coming to the training sessions, can call Jane Butler on (01439) 766740, or turn up at 5pm on Thursday evenings at the sports centre at Ampleforth College. Visit http://www.communigate.co.uk/ryedale/sassc/ for more details.
