Scarborough and District FA Junior Cup quarter-finals. TWO teams from the Beckett League reached the semi-finals last Saturday, plus Lealholm, from the Esk Vale and Cleveland League, who are the favourites to lift the trophy.

Kirkdale United won 1-0 at Seamer, from the Scarborough and District League third division. Kirkdale had five good chances to take the lead in the first half but it was a scrambled effort from Graham Jemison that won the game midway through the second half.

Kirkdale's keeper James Thompson made a couple of outstanding saves in the second half. Ian Prendergast was Kirkdale's man of the match.

The all-Beckett League clash saw first division Kirkbymoorside reserves run out easy 6-0 winners over current second division leaders Union Rovers. Bobby Brewer was Kirkby's star man with four goals. Andrew Piercy and Aaron Rivis got the other goals.

Snainton took Lealholm all the way before bowing out 3-1 on penalties after a thrilling match had ended 5-5 after extra-time.

They went 2-0 up after 20 minutes, thanks to goals from Danny Wilcox and Ryan Cooper. Lealholm pulled one back through Ian Robinson a minute later but Wilcox soon restored Snainton's two-goal advantage. By half-time, Lealholm were level through Richard Holland and another from Robinson.

Five minutes into the second half, an own goal by Paul Kinghorn put Lealholm ahead but Kevin Craig scored a fine equaliser midway in the half to force extra-time.

In the first minute, Lealholm regained the lead when Paul Butler scored with a diving header. Ten minutes later, Liam Cooper equalised for Snainton to take the game to penalties.

Unfortunately for Snainton, only Liam Cooper scored from the spot. Karl Cooper and Danny Wilcox had their efforts saved by Lealholm keeper Peter Thompson, while Chris Watson hit the bar as Snainton lost the shoot-out 3-1.

The tie between Newcastle Packet and Forge Hotel was postponed 20 minutes before kick-off due to snow.

Ryedale Hospital Cup

second round

The wintry weather put paid to all but two Hospital Cup ties in the Beckett League last Saturday.

Ryedale Sports Club reserves beat fellow second division side Carlton United 6-2 at home. Though Ryedale 2-0 up through a brace from impressive youngster Andy Best, Carlton levelled before the break through Craig Fairweather and Ian Robson.

Ryedale progressed to the next round, thanks to four second-half goals. Man of the match Dave Jenkins grabbed a hat-trick and John Sherwood's perfectly floated free-kick was converted by Sean Dixon. Sherwood and James Reed impressed for Ryedale, as did the centre back pairing of Carl Roffe and Mike Phillips. Dan Varley and Ally Wildash shared the Carlton award.

An all-first division clash saw Old Malton thirds lose 2-0 at home to Aislaby United.

Old Malton had three good chances early on but Aislaby took the lead before half-time through Kenny Temple. The visitors played a lot better in the second half and went further ahead after a good move involving James Harland and Simon Abbott, with the latter finding the scoresheet. Man of the match winners were Stuart Clarkson (Old Malton) and Mark Harland (Aislaby Utd).
