THINK of a gifted Frenchman and you might think of a philosopher, a painter or perhaps a poet.

It is unlikely that you would immediately envision a blues singer.

But Claude Bourbon is that rare individual - a Gallic blues maestro - and he will be on stage at the New Inn, Cropton, this Saturday.

Though born in France, Bourbon was raised in Switzerland. He toured Europe for five years with a band which included Miles Davis saxophonist Steve Grossman and Gary Moore's drummer Charly Morgan, before settling permanently in England in late 1999.

Bourbon now tours the length and breadth of the UK, while these jaunts are interspersed with frequent sessions on the continent, promoting his recent CDs Bourbon Street, Live at The Wedgewood Rooms and Stop Breaking Down - Stop La Deprime.

His French intonation, guitar work and original takes on deep south and Chicago blues classics should mean an interesting night out for those attending.

The concert starts at 9pm.

Admission is free, but early arrival is recommended as space inside the New Inn is limited.
