On Saturday night, February 21, 2004 over 100 young people from all over Ryedale attended the latest in a long line of successful gigs at Kirkbymoorside Memorial Hall.
They were attending the latest in a long line of successful gigs; this time enjoying the sounds of local bands My Friend Juliet, Hedcage and Unapproved. Their sets were a mixture of songs the bands had written themselves and cover versions of old favourites.
Sam Robinson and Richard Thorpe, from My Friend Juliet organised the gig. It was an event aided by local businesses. Richard Haynes, a band member's father and local music teacher, provided the sound and lighting equipment, and worked hard with the bands on sound checks before the gig. The security was provided by a local safety consultancy, RPL. Karen Bradley-Aaron, a police community support officer, was on duty outside the hall before the gig and in the hall during the gig to help ensure a peaceful evening; and Debbie, the manageress at the local Spar, lent a large mobile fridge and soft drinks on a sale or return basis. Both the dry bar and the entry desk were run by young people.
Well done, lads! It was a good event and Kirkbymoorside looks forward to hosting the next one.
