Scarborough and District FA Harbour Cup Final - Edgehill 1, Kirkbymoorside 0. EDGEHILL regained the Harbour Cup on Monday night at Pickering when they beat Kirkbymoorside in a game which failed to live up to its pre-match expectations.

The match only went ahead after some hard work by six Pickering Town members, who spent over two hours getting the water off the pitch following heavy rain over the weekend.

The opening 20 minutes was spent in midfield. The Moorsiders had Andrew Hodgson cautioned for a late challenge on Edgehill's man of the match Paddy Mancrief. After 22 minutes, Mancrief had a 25-yard shot saved at the second attempt by Kirkby keeper Darren Collier.

Edgehill took the lead after 25 minutes when a right-wing corner by Gary Hepples was forced home from close range by Ainsley Scott, following a goalmouth scramble .

The last ten minutes of the half saw Edgehill well on top, but they couldn't beat Collier. After 35 minutes, a cross by Hepples found Paul Nock, who out-jumped the Kirkby defence, but Collier made another outstanding save.

Four minutes later, Hepples shot wide from 20 yards after good work by Dean Lill. In the last five minutes of the half, Mancrief went close twice after two good crosses by Nock, but Collier saved well on both occasions. On the stroke of half-time, Edgehill's Micky Sellers was cautioned.

The second half followed a similar pattern to the first, although the Moorsiders had a good chance after 54 minutes when Nicky Thurlow crossed for Martin Charlton to head the ball straight at Edgehill's keeper, Paul Robinson.

Edgehill had Ainsley Scott cautioned after 57 minutes, and Paddy Mancrief also went into referee Duncan Graham's book six minutes later.

With 15 minutes remaining, Paddy Mancrief made an amazing run of 60 yards, beating five Moorsiders players before unleashing a 25-yard shot which Collier did well to tip round for a corner.

In the last minute, Edgehill sub David Bell crossed from the right to set up Paul Nock, but Collier, who was easily Kirkby's man of the match, snatched the ball off his foot as he was about to shoot.

After the match, Edgehill deservedly received the cup from John Jennison, president of Pickering Town.

These two sides clash again on Wednesday, April 28, in the FA District Cup at Scarborough's McCain Stadium, kick-off 7.30pm.
