York and District Senior League Premier Division - Beverley 160 all out - Pickering 162 for 3. Aussie Sean Stuchbery turned on the style to spin his way to a match-winning 6 for 50, as the Pikes won at old East Yorkshire Cup foes Beverley.

Pikes' skipper Col Frank's decision to put Beverley in paid dividends. Despite the absence of the injured Tony Evans, Craig Aconley (2 for 26) and Charlie Marwood (2 for 23) put Beverley on the back foot.

The hosts made it to 156 for 5 as Ian Gillian made 40 and Ali Brumfield made 35.

But Beverley then lost five wickets for four runs as Stuchbery mopped up, which included him bowling three batsmen. It could have been better had it not been for some sloppy fielding by the Aussie himself, who dropped four catches off his own bowling.

Mark Shepherd spearheaded the Pikes' reply with 64no. The opener figured in partnerships of 69, with Col Frank, and an unbeaten 62, with Craig Aconley, who hit a superb 40no, that included five fours and a six and came in just 43 balls.

Shepherd's innings saw him reach the boundary on nine occasions in his 112-ball stay at the crease.

East Yorkshire Cup KO

Pickering 265 for 5

Hornsea 184 all out

Pickering made light work of Hornsea, thanks to 123 runs from Mark Shepherd, his first century for the Pikes.

Shepherd caressed 16 fours and a six in his innings of only 107 balls. Chris Nichols (39) showed his worth, pairing up with Shepherd in an opening stand of 94.

Sean Stuchbery made 51 as he and Shepherd added 112 for the third wicket. Simon King also registered 21.

As if they had not seen enough of Shepherd, Hornsea then saw him capture 3 for 23.

Even Chris Nichols, not normally a bowler with the Pikes, claimed 3 for 16. Young Jonathan Ibbotson also did well with a 2 for 25 return and there was also a wicket for Jason Feaster.
