FINAL preparations are under way for a Claudia Lawrence Awareness Day to mark the missing chef’s 36th birthday.

It will take place on the eve of Claudia’s birthday on Friday, February 26, and will feature a balloon release in St Sampson’s Square, York.

A luggage tag appealing for information to help the police investigation into her suspected murder will be attached to each balloon.

There will also be live music from the Dunwells, one of Claudia’s favourite bands, and a single candle on top of a birthday cake will remain alight during the event.

Martin Dales, a friend and spokesman for Claudia’s father, Peter Lawrence, said: “This is a poignant day for Peter, her family and friends, but it is also a good opportunity to remind everyone that Claudia is still missing.

“The atmosphere will be balanced between it being both Claudia’s birthday and a reminder that she has been missing for nearly a year.

“Someone knows something, and it is time to know where Claudia is for the sake of everyone who loves and cares for her.”

Claudia, of Heworth Road, York, has been missing since March 18 last year.

Anyone who has information to help the police inquiry should phone North Yorkshire Police on 0845 60 60 247.
