NORTON College’s new headteacher Phil Loftus found himself joining in some major celebrations just three days into the job, when the students’ GCSE results were announced.

“It was a great start to my career at the college,” he said. “Everyone was on a real high – staff and students alike – as a result of the successes which were achieved. Everyone was quite rightly delighted.”

Phil has moved to Norton from Wellington School, Trafford, in Manchester, where he was first deputy for several years. He had earlier been head of geography at a school in the Midlands.

He takes over as head from Tony Rawlin, who has been appointed executive head of a cluster of secondary schools in North Yorkshire, but will be spending a day a week at Norton College, Mr Loftus said.

“I am delighted to be joining the college when it is on such a crest of the wave, especially following the opening of the sixth form unit.”
