EX-professional football players Gary Pallister and Craig Hignett have been named among the team to line-up against a Ryedale team next month.

The Legends, a group of 34 ex-professional players, will be sending 14 of their number to play against Kirkbymoorside Football Club in a fundraising match to be held on Sunday, May 10.

The full line-up has now been confirmed as Kelham O’Hanlon, Curtis Fleming, Lee Martin, Kevin Scott, Gary Bennett, Gary Pallister, Craig Hignett, Frank McAvennie, Peter Davenport, John Hendrie, Liam O’Brian, Paul Dalton, Terry Cochrane and Ian Harte.

Bryan Robson may also be playing, depending on other commitments.

The match will be raising money for a new clubhouse and pitches at the club, which has grown ten-fold over the last few years.

Alex Strickland, who is organising the event, said the Kirkbymoorside players were practising hard to make sure it would be a good game.

He said: “We’ve got 30 players in our club all wanting to be picked for the team who will play against the Legends, so everyone is trying to show off their skills at the moment.”

The total cost of everything on the club’s ‘wish list’, which includes an extra senior pitch, a number of junior pitches, drainage, floodlights, a spectator stand and a new clubhouse with changing facilities, a kitchen and storage, comes to £750,000, which can be part-funded by grants, but the rest must be raised by the club.

The game will start at 2pm, with entrance to the game costing £5 for adults and £2 for children.

The Legends will also be at a sportsman’s dinner at Kirkbymoorside Golf Club on Sunday evening, where pledges and items donated by The Legends will be auctioned.

Tickets to the dinner cost £40, and Mr Strickland, said that there were only two tables left.
