NORTH Yorkshire libraries are set to become talking shops this month.

As part of National Year of Reading, libraries will be holding events centred around the “word of mouth” theme, with people talking and performing, as well as reading.

There will be special events for book clubs across the county, including a competition in Scarborough and a literary themed quiz in Knaresborough.

Pickering Library will hold a talk on North Yorkshire’s internationally known author Laurence Sterne, on October 29, at 10.30am, with tickets costing £2 available from the library. Pickering is also holding a poetry workshop during half-term.

Ripon Library is running a scheme telling the older generation how they can make a difference to the lives of local primary school children by helping with their reading skills. Details will be available from the library between 10am and noon on October 15.

Hallowe’en story times are taking place across the county towards the end of the month, including a fancy dress session in Malton on October 29.
