Puff pieces
Cllr Andy Brown, who has accused North Yorkshire Council of spending money on “puff pieces” applauding its achievements at the expense of saving bus routes (Farm & Country, March 6) makes a valid point, despite council leader Carl Les describing his proposal as “bonkers.”
The council will have a £16.5million per annum windfall from April 2025 with the introduction of double council tax on second homes. Whilst I have a degree of sympathy with Cllr Brown’s view, I would welcome the council’s press office, when the time comes, spending a small proportion of that income on “puff pieces” explaining to taxpayers exactly how that money is being used to alleviate the shortage of affordable housing. Or will it, as I fear, simply be absorbed into the council’s overall coffers?
