A new donations box which will support parents as well as helping to raise funds to benefit pupils has been built with the help of local businesses at Amotherby Primary School.

The box will be used for a multitude of fundraising events but will also provide a daily drop container that parents can put in any uniform their child has outgrown, which can then be made available to others.

The idea for the box came from members of Amotherby Primary School's PTA which has started up again after a hiatus through covid and is now into its second year of fundraising to try and provide the school with new playground equipment, subsidise trips and fun events for the children that the school budget doesn’t cover.

Lucie Thompson, PTA member said: "After the PTA managed to procure a large wooden crate, the idea to use it as a donation box came to fruition, but it would need weatherproofing and ensuring it can be used safely.

"So, with some light pestering, the box has gone from a basic crate to a beautiful (mobile) information and donation unit.

"This could only have been made possible with the kind donations of materials and time from local businesses and we would like to therefore thank the following: HEC Home Improvements for felting the lid, Direct Imaging Supplies for donating a white board and wipeable pens so information regarding fundraising events can be shared, Harrison and Hargreaves Paint and Paper Specialists for providing the weatherproofing paint which is both practical and pretty, MKM Malton for the hinges and handles to help keep things both secure and manoeuvrable, Watermark Plumbing Supplies who provided the wet room board for the inside to keep everything safe and waterproof and the castors, kindly donated but would like to be kept anonymous

"Their help has meant that the PTA will be able to put the money that would have been needed towards other causes in the school, and we are truly grateful for your generosity."

"The new donations box will be used for a multitude of fundraising events but will also provide a daily drop container that parents can put in any uniform their child has outgrown, which can then be organised and made available to all parents and guardians at no cost.

"Whilst this goes against the usual premise of what a PTA does in raising money, we believe that with everything feeling more expensive, everyone is feeling the pinch, and buying new uniform can be a regular burden we would like to try and alleviate for parents and will happily find other ways to raise some cash.

"So again, thank you to everyone who has helped, your generosity has already made a huge difference and will continue to do so."
