Crews from Malton and Huntington responded to reports of a fire to a bedroom on the top floor of a three-storey property in Norton at 12.18pm this afternoon (Monday).
The fire, at a house in Fletton Road, was to an ottoman caused by a plug which had overheated and ignited the clothes placed on top of it.
The fire caused 100% smoke damage to top floor and 5% fire damage to the room of origin. Crews used one hose reel jet, a thermal imaging camera, a triple extension ladder and reciprocating saw and hoolie tool.
