YORK City’s clash with fellow strugglers Aldershot Town had the second-highest attendance in the Vanarama National League on Saturday.

5,779 spectators watched on as the Minstermen all but secured their safety in the fifth tier in a dramatic 2-2 draw.

Tyler Frost’s injury-time equaliser rescued a point for the Shots after City had earlier taken the lead through a Lenell John-Lewis penalty and Cory Jordan own goal.

That attendance is only bettered by Hollywood-owned Wrexham, who secured promotion back to the Football League after a 15-year exile following their 3-1 victory over Boreham Wood

Relegated Yeovil Town drew the third highest crowd, with 4,016, in their 3-0 loss to fellow former EFL club Oldham Athletic, while Bromley’s 2-0 win at home to play-off hopefuls Chesterfield (3,817) and Woking’s 2-1 victory over in-form Gateshead (3,519) rounded off the top five.

Saturday’s attendance now brings the total attendance at the LNER Community Stadium this year to almost 120,000, City’s highest in 30 years.
